The Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild has approved a new category for the Core Sound Decoy Competition at the Core Sound Decoy Festival that is always held the first weekend in December at Harkers Island.
The Kent Hood North Carolina Traditional Decoy Championship will be a competition of traditional North Carolina decoys that would be defined as a decoy representing a style made in any region of North Carolina before 1950. The carver’s interpretation of these styles is encouraged. The decoy must have a place for securing an anchor line and must be made of wood, cork, or canvas.
Styles of decoys that could be entered into this new category include, but are not limited to, Currituck, Core Sound, Bogue Sound, Knotts Island, Churches Island, Outer Banks, Portsmouth, Ocracoke, and Hatteras.
More specific information about rules and prize monies will be posted once the Core Sound Decoy Competition Committee approves the proposed rules.
